The West Tampa Black delivers a medium to full-bodied smoking experience with a complex flavor profile featuring natural tobacco, cedar, berry, earth, pepper, coffee, and chocolate notes. Starting at medium-plus strength and gaining body throughout, it finishes in full-bodied territory with mild to medium strength in the first half progressing to medium in the second half. The profile begins with notes of espresso and charred wood, followed by layers of black pepper, mineral-rich earth, and touches of bittersweet cocoa.
Crafted with an Ecuadorian Habano Dark wrapper, Nicaraguan Ometepe binder, and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from Condega Viso and Esteli Ligero, this cigar is handmade at the Garmendia Cigars Co. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Black line distinguishes itself with a wrapper from a higher priming, yielding a darker hue and more robust flavor profile, complemented by the volcanic island Ometepe binder known for its rich soil. Created by master blender Rick Rodriguez, former CAO brand ambassador, and Gus Martinez, both alumni of General Cigar Company, who formed West Tampa Tobacco Company in 2022.
This cigar offers a satisfying smoking experience that appeals to both novice and experienced cigar enthusiasts. Construction is consistently excellent with spot-on burn quality, dense grey ash, and well-applied triple seam cap. The brand pays homage to West Tampa, Florida, where Rodriguez's grandparents settled in the 1950s after emigrating from Cuba, and the cigar's chocolate-bar colored wrapper has a silky complexion.
