Nub Connecticut features a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos, handmade at the prestigious Oliva factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Its complex flavors are made from the combination of the filler and binder with the Ecuadorian grown Connecticut-seed wrapper, offering a medium-bodied smoke that doesn't overpower, yet offers a complex flavor. Professional reviews describe it as woody and creamy with a peanut note and a bit of cedar, while tasting notes include soothing notes of vanilla with touches of cinnamon.
First released in 2008 under the guidance of Sam Leccia, the Connecticut was Oliva Cigar's first venture into the Gordito vitola. By sacrificing length in favour of girth, the objective was to develop a cigar featuring full flavours almost instantaneously. Rather than having to work their way through the first third of a Churchill or Toro, smokers would enjoy the cigar's potential upon lighting. First seen as something of a maverick in the cigar industry, Nub by Oliva soon went on to receive a cult following. Showcasing quality construction and intense flavours, Nub soon popularised the 6×60 Gordito vitola. Since then, many other brands have followed, but Nub remains one of the first to successfully create a short yet flavoursome cigar from the first draw.
Cigar Aficionado has rated the Nub Connecticut 358 with scores of 88 points in February 2022, 87 points in October 2018, and 87 points in August 2015. The strength is commonly described as mild to medium, making it an easy intro to Oliva's line of Nub cigars and a uniquely-shaped alternative for cigar smokers who like Nicaraguan core blends with Connecticut-wrappers.
