Background
Ferio Tego emerged from the shutdown of Nat Sherman's premium cigar business by Altria in 2020, when Herklots and Scott worked to acquire the beloved brands they had nurtured for years. The company's name derives from the Herklots family motto dating to 1641, translating to 'Strike and Defend,' with their logo featuring Hercules striking a Hydra from the family coat of arms. Herklots expressed his excitement to continue developing these iconic brands with Scott, maintaining their commitment to balancing consistency with innovation. The brand philosophy reflects striking a balance between taking risks and moving forward while honoring tradition, exemplified by their revival of Nat Sherman's classic series alongside new premium blends. Distribution is handled exclusively by Davidoff of Geneva USA, ensuring premium positioning in the luxury cigar market.
History
Michael Herklots brought over two decades of premium cigar industry experience, having worked at Davidoff of Geneva for nine years before joining Nat Sherman in 2011 as Vice President. Brendon Scott served as Chief Financial Officer of Nat Sherman and helped lead the integration when Altria acquired the company in 2017. The acquired brands returned to market by summer 2021, starting with Timeless and Metropolitan, maintaining their original manufacturers and unchanged blends. The flagship Ferio Tego brand launched with two limited offerings, Elegancia and Generoso, priced at $210 MSRP per ten-cigar humidor.
Reputation
The company owns Metropolitan Host, one of America's top-selling cigar brands, with the Host Hobart being the number one selling cigar since 1995. Altria praised Herklots and Scott as 'great brand stewards' who made valuable contributions to the company. Herklots holds credentials as a Certified Master Tobacconist and serves on the American Sommelier Association board. The brand is recognized for achieving full-bodied profiles without aggression, establishing a distinctive 'house style' that balances elegance with complexity.
