Background

Camacho Cigars traces its origins back to 1961, when Cuban exile Simon Camacho founded the brand after fleeing Cuba following the Cuban Revolution. Simon established his cigar factory in Miami, Florida, bringing with him prized Corojo seeds and an unwavering dedication to recreating the magic of Cuban cigars outside the island's borders. After Simon Camacho's passing in 1990, the brand underwent a significant transformation when the Eiroa family, headed by Julio Eiroa, acquired the company in 1995. The Eiroa family, with deep ties to the tobacco trade and extensive experience cultivating premium tobacco in Honduras, brought renewed focus on quality and consistency by moving production to their family-owned farms in the fertile valleys of Honduras. In 2008, the Swiss-based Oettinger Davidoff Group acquired Camacho, bringing significant investment and resources while maintaining the brand's bold identity and commitment to quality. Under Davidoff's stewardship, Camacho underwent a bold rebranding effort in 2013 that emphasized the brand's 'bold standard' ethos, appealing to a new generation of smokers seeking intensity and authenticity.

History

For six decades, Camacho has been dedicated to building exceptional cigars while perfecting and preserving the Honduran Corojo seed that forms the foundation of their blends. The brand's evolution accelerated when Julio Eiroa traveled to Honduras in 1963, establishing tobacco plantations that would become central to Camacho's identity and helping to kick-start the modern history of tobacco cultivation in Honduras. By the early 2000s, with the launch of the iconic Camacho Corojo line, the Eiroa family and their ventures had become well-known within the US cigar industry. Under Davidoff's guidance, Camacho partnered with Bayer CropScience to develop rigorous agricultural and manufacturing practices, becoming the only tobacco company in the world to follow such stringent environmental standards.
