The Perla Del Mar Maduro offers a robust, dark chocolate twist on the creamy and smooth original, utilizing the same unique blend as the Perla del Mar Classic wrapped in a genuine Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. This medium-bodied cigar is commonly described as delivering flavors of coffee, earth, dried fruit, mineral, and pepper, while focusing on the sweeter notes that can come through with a Maduro leaf. The cigar has received consistent ratings of 90-91 points from major publications including Cigar Aficionado, Cigar & Spirits, Cigar Insider, and Cigar Snob.
The Perla del Mar brand traces its heritage to 1905 when four Cuban brothers started hand rolling cigars using tobacco grown on their family's farm in Cuba, naming their company Perfecto Garcia Brothers and calling their cigars "Perla del Mar" because of the beautiful Caribbean waters that surround Cuba. Today's Perla del Mar features special, hand-selected, aged binder and long filler tobaccos from four distinct regions in the lush mountains of Nicaragua: Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega, and Jalapa. Production is handled at J.C. Newman's PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The cigars feature a distinctive "Tampa-style" pressing that renders the cigar more rectangular in shape, creating a new rectangular box-press design. All blends are reported to sell for a reasonable $6.00 - $7.00, with suggested retail prices ranging from $6.05 to $7.20. The revamped blend includes tobaccos that are not only more aged than the original, but stronger in general due to the addition of more viso leaf.
