Background

The Perdomo legacy traces its roots to 1930s Cuba, where company founder Silvio Perdomo was raised in San Jose de las Lajas and entered the cigar industry as a young man, serving his apprenticeship for Cuesta y Cia in the early 1930s. Silvio worked for H. Upmann until 1945, then moved to a managerial position at Partagas where he stayed until 1959. Following the Cuban Revolution, Silvio was imprisoned for 15 years as an enemy of Castro's revolution, while his son Nick Sr. fought as a guerrilla against communist forces. In 1976, Nick Perdomo Sr. and his family moved to Miami, Florida, where his son Nick Jr. started the business in August 1992 from his garage, initially calling it "Nick's Cigar Co." The company's journey from a three-person operation to becoming one of Nicaragua's largest cigar manufacturers represents the ultimate American dream success story.

History

In its first year, the company produced just 9,400 cigars, but by 1997 had expanded to sell 1 million cigars annually. Nick Senior came out of retirement in 1997 to help open a production facility in Estelí, Nicaragua, which was later replaced with a custom-built facility in 1999. During the 1990s cigar boom, Perdomo introduced the Perdomo² ("Perdomo squared"), one of the first box-pressed cigars of the period. Today, Perdomo's Nicaraguan facilities span 14 acres with over 750,000 square feet of space, representing one of the most impressive cigar operations in the world.

Reputation

Perdomo's commitment to quality has been recognized when the 10th Anniversary Maduro Epicure was named Cigar of the Year 2021 by Cigar Journal, and recently when Perdomo 30th Anniversary won Best Brand Nicaragua 2024 by Cigar Journal. Perdomo Lot 23 was awarded the Best Value Brand of Nicaragua in 2012 by Cigar Journal and is one of the best-selling premium cigars in the world. The Perdomo profile helped to usher in the fuller-bodied experiences that dominate today's marketplace, featuring Nicaraguan puro cigar blends nearly exclusively throughout their portfolio. Perdomo Cigars is the only cigar manufacturer to completely absorb the punitive SCHIP federal excise tax on all of its brands, demonstrating their commitment to both retailers and consumers.
