The all Nicaraguan blend is mostly from AJ Fernandez' Dorado farm, which he aptly named due to its golden texture and taste. Dorado means "gold" in Spanish, and this cigar is named Dorado because most of the tobacco comes from AJ Fernandez's Dorado farm in Estelí, Nicaragua. He called this farm Dorado because of the soil's golden tint and the tobacco leaves' slightly golden hue. The AJ Fernandez New World Dorado opened up as a medium-strength, medium-bodied cigar with a slight increase in both attributes along the way, but both characteristics stayed in the medium range. A tangy, medium-bodied zest layers the palate with a hint of sweetness from the wrapper. Succulent notes of white pepper, cedar, and cinnamon mingle before a hearty, nutty finish rounds out the foundation of another gem from AJ Fernandez. Back in 2014, AJ Fernandez Cigar Company launched what would become the company's most successful brand, New World. The original intent of the brand was to pay homage to the days of exploration, in particular when the Europeans observed natives smoking tobacco. New World introduced a box-pressed Oscuro-wrapped offering at a very attractive $6.00 price point. Since then, the brand has expanded to five different lines. In 2022, AJ Fernandez unveiled the fifth blend in the line, the New World Dorado. The tobaccos from Dorado farm are used for the wrapper, binder, and a portion of the filler. Specifically, the wrapper is a Habano Sun Grown leaf. Production comes from AJ Fernandez's factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua. After receiving a 93-rating from Cigar Aficionado in 2022, and ranking #14 in the Top 25 Cigars of the Year, the desire to sample AJ Fernandez's New World Dorado became overwhelming. These Nicaraguan puros are made with tobacco sourced exclusively from the Fernandez family's Dorado farm in Estelí, providing a smooth and flavorful cold draw. The cigar looks meticulously crafted, and its Cuban-seed Sun Grown Nicaraguan wrapper is smooth with a minimal vein structure. Underneath it is an ample blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers.
