La Promesa is covered in a dark, Ecuador Habano rosado oscuro wrapper, with binder and filler tobaccos from the Garcia family farms in Nicaragua. The cigar exhibits medium to full-bodied strength with notes of pepper, chocolate, leather, spices, nuts, and wood that balances off with an oakiness and sweet creaminess. Professional reviews describe flavors of cayenne pepper, cedar, musk, pecan, spice, espresso, malt, earth, leather, light pepper, sweet spices (nutmeg & cinnamon), sweet cream, and bittersweet chocolate.
"La Promesa, 'The Promise,' is referring to something very personal between Pepín and his family. In 2001 when he left Cuba for the first time, completely alone, he made a promise to the rest of the family, who stayed in Cuba" to prove himself, to make something of himself in the cigar world outside of Cuba, and to honor his family and tobacco heritage. According to My Father, the company as it stands today—with its farms in Nicaragua and factories in both Nicaragua and Miami—is the fulfillment of that promise. My Father La Promesa is made at the My Father Cigars Factory, in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The My Father La Promesa would not be wasted on a new cigar smoker, especially someone who wants to sample one of the better My Father cigars, as it's far from overpowering in strength. In the hands of a more experienced cigar smoker, the deep, dark flavor will certainly offer much more in terms of this cigar's overall refinement. La Promesa is an excellent addition to the My Father product lineup. It's a lot more subtle than other offerings, and features a velvety smooth smoke full of elegantly sweet flavors.
