The Fonseca by My Father features an all-Nicaraguan tobacco blend highlighted by a shade-grown Corojo '99 Rosado wrapper, with Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos providing a medium to full-bodied profile with notes of wood, earth, and cream, combined with a milder use of My Father's signature pepper. This cigar earned recognition as one of the Top 25 Cigars of 2020 with a 93-point rating, noted for its "dense smoke of gingerbread and toast balanced by a piquant hint of ground red pepper—a spicy Garcia signature."
My Father Cigars acquired the Fonseca brand from Quesada Cigars in December 2019, taking ownership of a brand originally established in Cuba in 1892 by Don Francisco Fonseca, which had been owned by the Quesada family for 45 years. Rather than continuing existing production, My Father created its own interpretation using entirely Nicaraguan tobacco grown by the Garcia family on their farms, with all cigars rolled at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Following traditional Fonseca heritage, the Cosaco size is wrapped in tissue paper while the Cedros size is individually covered in cedar.
The smoking experience delivers a medium-plus intensity with classic Cuban-style character enhanced by Nicaraguan zestiness, offering flavors ranging from aromatic baking spices and cedar to caramel, medium-roast coffee, buttered toast, and table cream through the finish. This medium-bodied profile is described as "rich with flavors of earth and spice, tamed down a bit to pay homage to the classic Fonseca brand."
