Background

The Baccarat brand originally came to be in 1871, created by Carl Upmann, brother of H. Upmann founder Hermann Dietrich Upmann. The brand was widely popular among Cuban smokers throughout the 1920s and early 1930s, and was reintroduced in 1978 by Carl Upmann. In 1989, Julio Eiroa took over Fumas Tobacco, starting Caribe Imports and reviving the Baccarat brand. Working as partners with the Eiroa family, production responsibilities were assumed under Camacho, and the blend became mostly Honduran - a transformation that was a smash hit with smokers who loved the mellow creamy profile that became Baccarat's signature. In 2008, Davidoff acquired Camacho and the Rancho Jamastran factory in Honduras, with the Eiroa family remaining owners of their Honduran tobacco fields and overseeing all Baccarat production.

History

During the cigar boom of the 1990s, Baccarat reached new heights, and when Camacho experienced financial struggles around 1998 involving unionization issues, Baccarat cigars were what kept the company afloat with sales that never dipped but only increased. Christian Eiroa claimed in a Cigar Aficionado article that Baccarat was always the top seller for Camacho and what kept the factory going during difficult times. The brand's acquisition by Davidoff in 2008 placed it in solid financial hands while keeping it under the highly-capable oversight of the Eiroa family who gave it new life in 1989. Under Davidoff's ownership, Baccarat cigars are being made better than ever at the former Camacho factory.

The brand has earned exceptional customer satisfaction, with over 900 members giving it a well-deserved 4.5 out of 5 rating. It's considered an ideal smoke for beginners and novices to start with, serving as a great 'entry-point' cigar due to its flavorful yet light strength that won't overpower new smokers. The brand has maintained popularity for decades thanks to its mild, sweet taste, affordable prices, and rock-solid quality and consistency despite being among the lowest-priced cigars in the market.
