CAO Arcana is a limited-edition series dedicated to showcasing old-world tobacco processing methods, featuring unique tobacco forms and techniques from various regions around the world. Developed by CAO's Brand Ambassador and Blender Rick Rodriguez, the Arcana series was designed to bring excitement to CAO fans by highlighting original tobacco fermentation methods, similar to the brand's approach with Amazon Basin and its Bragança leaf. The series highlights the secrets and traditions of old-world tobacco processing methods, passed down from generation to generation to bring out the best in native tobaccos from across the globe.
The inaugural release, Mortal Coil, features andullo tobacco in the filler, which represents the oldest tobacco fermentation method of the Dominican Republic. Instead of traditional bulk fermentation, andullo is rolled into long cylinders and tightly wrapped in palm tree pods called "yaguas" that are compressed with rope, taking approximately two years to transform the tobacco into dense logs with characteristically thick texture and earthy sweetness. The series has expanded to include Firewalker, which utilizes the chincagre aging method from Western Nicaragua, and Thunder Smoke, featuring all-African filler tobaccos.
Each release in the Arcana series is produced in extremely limited quantities of 5,000 boxes containing 20 cigars each, making them highly sought-after collector's items. The cigars are typically medium-bodied with full flavor profiles, opening to reveal complex notes of nuttiness, creamy earthiness, and distinctive sweetness derived from their unique fermentation processes. The series represents CAO's commitment to pushing boundaries and requires extensive care and attention to produce, continuing the brand's legacy of innovation in premium cigar making.
