Grown in a remote region in the Amazon Rainforest, Amazon Basin uses a rare tobacco called Bragança that is organically grown on unspoiled tropical land and only harvested once every three years. This Bragança leaf is masterfully blended with tobaccos from five different countries, giving you a smoking experience unlike any other. To create CAO Amazon Basin, this Bragança tobacco was blended with tobaccos from 5 different countries and finished with a dark, Ecuadorian Sumatra ligero wrapper. The cigar is commonly described as medium to full-bodied with intense fruit and molasses and a profile of earth, cedar, leather, and damp soil with a chewy zest and a rich, peppery finish.
Grown in a virgin, tropical land in the rainforest and harvested only once every 3 years, Bragança may be one of the most elusive tobaccos in the world. After the tobacco is harvested, it's rolled by hand into tubes and fermented for 6 months. Then, it must be transported by canoe back to the mainland. Once harvested, the leaves are rolled by hand into tubes called carottes and undergo six months of natural fermentation, a technique similar to that of Andullo tobacco. Once fermented, it takes four to six weeks to get them from forest to factory, a process that involves being hand carried to the river, put into canoes and rowed to the mainland, and then driven to the port and shipped to Nicaragua where the cigars are made. Each cigar features a rustic, 100% twisted tobacco 'band' that adds another unique touch.
Due to the tobacco's rarity and the fact that it is harvested only ONCE every three years, only 1500-2000 boxes are produced annually depending on crop yield. The Amazon Basin represents one of CAO's most sought-after limited releases, building on the brand's reputation for innovative tobacco sourcing and exotic blends that have earned multiple 90+ ratings from Cigar Aficionado.
