The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series was introduced in 1994 to commemorate the company's 30th anniversary, featuring tobacco aged for four years that creates a smooth and complex flavor. This limited production selection delivers a complex flavor profile consisting of coffee bean, cocoa, earth, and hazelnut, while offering an exquisite profile of cedar, cocoa powder, leather, nuts, and coffee bean with hints of cinnamon and cayenne. In 2021, Cigar Aficionado rated the Padrón 1964 Anniversary blend 97 points and crowned it the '#1 Cigar of the Year,' the fourth time they've bestowed the honor on the award-winning Padrón portfolio.
The final product is a cigar of sun-grown, Cuban-seed tobaccos from Nicaragua, with the 1964 Anniversary line introduced as a box-pressed series in honor of the age-old Cuban tradition of box-pressing cigars. These cigars feature the finest Sun Grown EMS Natural or Maduro Nicaraguan wrappers, a Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan filler tobacco. It was José's idea to give the cigars the signature box-pressing, as he wanted a smoke that resembled the cigars he used to enjoy in Cuba.
Box-pressed and attractive, it starts with a woody, nutty core that gradually becomes more complex, with notes of hazelnut that are uncannily precise and segue into a rich, opulent smoke of cocoa bean that settles onto the palate like the fine confections of a chocolatier. For the protection of customers, the company has introduced a one-piece, individually-numbered integrated guarantee band to safeguard against counterfeiting.
